Our Curriculum

Farnborough Grange Nursery and Infant School Curriculum Intent

At Farnborough Grange, we believe in fostering a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel they Belong, they Respect each other, and Aspire to achieve their best. Our curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and inclusive, meeting the diverse needs of all our pupils.

We aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to succeed in their future lives. Our curriculum is based on the CUSP framework, which is Connected, Cumulative and Coherent. This ensures a seamless, cross-curricular and progressive learning experience that builds upon children's prior knowledge.

We believe in evidence-based teaching and learning. Our curriculum is informed by research on how children learn and how knowledge is effectively retained. To support vocabulary development and enhance learning, we use knowledge organisers. These tools help children to make connections between different topics and deepen their understanding. We also incorporate retrieval practice activities, such as regular mini-quizzes, to help children retain and recall their learning.

We believe that learning should be fun, exciting, and interesting for children. We provide opportunities for experiential learning through visits, visitors, and hands-on activities. These experiences help children to make connections between their learning and the real world.

Our English curriculum includes dedicated daily reading, alongside phonics and writing. The English offer is planned with a rich literature spine with ambitious books to inspire and challenge pupils. It is carefully mapped to enable children to experience a diverse range of social, moral and ethical issues as well as a wide range of authors. Our writing curriculum draws on taught content from History, Geography and Science and from the study of core texts from the literature spine. Our Maths Curriculum follows the White Rose Maths Scheme. Learning is adapted and differentiated to meet the needs of the children.
The wider curriculum subjects of Science, Geography, History, Computing and Art & Design are taught as a series of modules which are regularly revisited within each academic year and also built upon in subsequent years. This is to ensure that core knowledge is securely acquired through clear teaching sequences that are focused, interwoven and built around regular retrieval practice.

By nurturing our children's Belonging, Respect and Aspiration, we are providing them with a strong foundation for a fulfilling and successful life. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all.
